Secure Banking – Best Practices by HDFC Bank

Tips to help you conduct banking transactions securely.

Phishing: Do not respond, follow a link or open an attachment provided in unsolicited mail. Always access NetBanking by typing the correct URL (https://netbanking.hdfcbank.com/)

Vishing: Protect your account from miscreants who attempt to collect the personal bank credentials over phone calls. Don’t disclose your bank account and personal details even when the caller claims to be your bank’s representative.

Secured Connections: Always ensure secure connections by checking for a locked padlock symbol and https:// at the beginning of URL in the browser window, when banking online.

Use Passphrases: Passwords are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Set a different passphrase for every account and keep changing them constantly. Never allow the browser to remember your password/phrase. For e.g. The phrase ‘Goa is Stunning’ can be used as a passphrase like this: G0ai5$tunning

Register your e-mail and mobile number with the bank, to receive regular notifications of all the transactions done in your account.

Always Log Out: Always log out when you exit NetBanking/MobileBanking.

Cross-check your Account: Never forget to cross-check your account after every transaction done.

SIM Card Issues: If your SIM is deactivated without your consent, immediately contact your telecom service provider. If you suspect any foul play, immediately notify your bank

Double-up with Antivirus Software: Ensure the Antivirus software is regularly updated on your computer to prevent it from getting infected.

Avoid Public Computers or Free Wi-Fi: Do not use unsecured free Wi-Fi or a public computer to conduct your banking transactions as they are risk prone.
